Rev-elation came about in 1999, the year that the great vibes genius Milt Jackson died. The name refers to one of Milt’s nicknames, “The Reverend,” and the idea was to keep Milt’s legacy alive by using his own rhythm section to play his book of music together with various vibes greats. In doing this, the aim was to bring the spirit of “Bags” into live performances once again. In celebration of African-American History Month, explore different African-American artists’ choices of material and methods, as well as their varied modes of expression.
